This 31 second movie clip shows a takeoff and landing of the 747 Shuttle Carrier Aircraft. NASA uses two modified Boeing 747 jetliners, originally manufactured for commercial use, as Space Shuttle Carrier Aircraft (SCA). One is a 747-100 model, while the other is designated a 747-100SR (short range). The two aircraft are identical in appearance and in their performance as Shuttle Carrier Aircraft.

Back in 1982 I was living in East Baltimore, Maryland. I was out walking with my mother early in the morning, when at very low altitude, and very close by an SCA unexpectedly flew over us. It was one of those childhood memories that are indelible.I always wondered why it would have been in that area, I can only suppose it was taking off from a nearby military airfield. It was awesome!

they must seriously beef up the suspension on that 747 to be able to land with that thing on its back
